Get your letters ready and make sure you have practiced writing or painting your letters first before you begin. Make sure you are sure what you want your finished piece to look like. When doing the projects, don’t rush but take your time. Unlike paper most of the craft materials might not be easily obtainable for you, so you don’t want to waste valuable materials, time and ideas!

Mirror Craft

Arabic lettering crafts For this mirror crafts project, you can use a plain IKEA craft mirror or any other mirror you have that you think is suitable. The Mirror must have a frame, wooden or non wooden. The frame will be used for the Arabic letter design.
  • 1.First apply masking tape around the actual mirror, leaving out the frame to protect the mirror glass from getting messy.Note: If you are going to use a calligraphy nib and pen, bamboo reed pen or other reed pen, then you should try to use watercolour for this. If you use acrylic paint, or another non-water colour based paint, for the background, and you use watercolour paint in the calligraphy nib and pen, you have to wait until the background is completely dry and be extra careful that the pen doesn’t take up the non-water colour paint or ink.
  • 2.Using your sketched final idea as a reference guide, paint the background design on the border. Use acrylic paints on the background to produce best results. Wait 24 hours at least for the background to completely dry. Then move on to section 3.
  • 3.Now that the background is dry, its time to do the Arabic letters. You can do the letter designs in many different ways;
    • a. paint on the Arabic letters. First draw the letters out on paper, and then roughly sketch the letters out on the border. When you’re sure it’s sketched out accurately, then paint the letters in. Use acrylic paints to achieve best results.
    • b. you can do the lettering in calligraphy traditional techniques with the calligraphy pen, reed pen or so on.
    • c. stick on the lettering which you might had bought, or had cut out and made yourself.
  • 4.Leave everything to dry. Wait 24-48 hours before hanging up on the wall or using the mirror.

    Vase painting

    Arabic lettering crafts 2 A plain vase can be decorated in beautiful Arabic hand-letters, by your own hands! Use acrylic paints on the background to produce best results. Acrylic and non water based paints are not for calligraphy-pen-and-nibs as it is known to block the pen after it is continued to be used in it. Allow the paint to dry for 24/48 hours before using it.

    Other tips:Be as creative as you want. As well as Arabic letters you can incorporate; glued buttons and beaded patterns, sea shells, artificial small plants and so much more!
