About
Cyrillic letters/alphabet is a writing system. This writing system is used by many national languages, more than 50 languages. The most dominant Cyrillic uses being in Russia, Central Asia and Eastern Europe. As it is used by so many languages, adaptations are made, additional letterforms are added or subtracted to standard Cyrillic letters. That’s why you will find many variations of the alphabet.
Cyrillic became the third official alphabet of the EU, along with Latin and Greek. The alphabet was originally based on the Greek Uncial script. Capitals and lowercase were not distinguished in early Cyrillic.
The alphabet letters also had numerical values. It was based on native alphabetical Cyrillic order, but inherited from the letters' Greek ancestors. This was in early Cyrillic.

The Russian alphabet consists of 33 letters; 10 vowels and 21 consonants, as well as 2 letters which the sounds are not pronounced.
