How to design your own business card

buisness card design

I will show you how to design your own business cards, focusing on calligraphy techniques that you can implement into your designs also. If you have a business or profession you want to promote then business cards is the way to go! It’s good for creating good professional. So you have studied the different types of calligraphy and you’re developing your calligraphy skills, right? That’s great! Take your new found artistic skills and apply them to card making! Don’t sweat if you make a mistake, keep practicing and you will get better.

Things to include in your business card:
  • Company/Business name and logo
  • Your full name and Title
  • Your address
  • Phone number, fax number, mobile number
  • Website address
Pick your calligraphy font, paper type, printing method (reproducing each by hand or digital re-produced?), and colour scheme for your design. Pick them in accordance to fit your business’ style and theme. If your business is big and you need a large amount of business cards produced (large hundreds, thousands or millions), then you can go to a commercial printer, they have the best quality machinery and a variety of options to choose from. But a good scanner and printer is all you will need to reproduce your work faster and of course a computer. Even if your doing your calligraphy business card by hand, you can later scan it into your computer and print it many times. This saves time and energy. It also helps because when you keep trying to reproduce your calligraphy work, your cards won’t always be exactly the same, and also time is wasted by mistakes being made, thus you have to throw it away and re-start.

Want to design a double sided business card?

A lot of desktop printers don’t allow double sided print-outs. Check your printer first to see if double sided print is an option. If so think about what information you want on the back of your business card. If it’s not included, don’t worry, a one-sided business card is just fine. The back of business card options:
  • Map of your/businesses location
  • Discounts, subscriptions, coupons, referrals...
