Fancy letters
Calligraphy Style

Fancy Letters

Calligraphy alphabets are recognized for there fancy letter. Although not all calligraphy alphabets are considered as being fancy, some alphabets are considered as being more serious, without the additional fancy swirls or loops added to their letter form. What is it about calligraphy that makes it fancy?

The word fancy has many definitions. If I used the word fancy in context to describe calligraphy, then I would mean a calligraphy style that isn’t plain but is decorative and/or ornamented. Illuminated Caps, Swash Caps, Decorated Initials, Fancy capitals, I could go on forever naming the hundreds upon hundreds of fancy types of letters out there! There are so many fancy font styles on the web available. Although there are hundreds of fonts out there I have decided to add some of my favourite fancy alphabet pintables here for you to download/ save to your computer, and print them for free!

Found object alphabets

Found alphabets are letters that are photographed or drawn from everyday objects and environments. Alphabets are found in many different abstract places. When something is viewed at by a person from a particular angle, they see a letterform. People take pictures of these letter forms, which they then go on to develop into whole alphabets. An ‘o’ is a common letter that could be found and photographed in thousands of places, for example if a bin was photographed from a birds-eye view then that would form a letter ‘o’. Bellow are some found alphabet I found. Have a look to see if you can recognize the letters!

Letters do not have to be photographed. You can also draw them and record them in your sketchbook. As long as you have an image representing the letter form you see, you can do this in any medium or style that you want! Why not incorporate your found letter forms in your calligraphy designs too.

Inspiration
If you’re looking for inspiration for calligraphy ideas, you should relax in your garden. Seriously, take your sketch pad out there and draw from nature. There’s a lot of inspiration in your garden from the plants and trees, fruits and colour, and settings and textures. Calligraphy, with its loops and twirls, is inspired by the natural flow of nature! You can also find some beautiful found objects in your garden! Have a look at backyardletters . This is an amazing site where they professionally take photos of letter forms found in backyards. If you’re not a pro at photographer, and want some professionally taken shots of found objects look no further.
