Handwriting improves by first accepting that there is a problem with your handwriting and that you want to fix it, and then you next decide that you want to take action ant try to fix your poor writing habits. Its takes time to change handwriting habits, the same way that it takes time to learn a different language or sport. But with the right determination, and the right guides to help you along the way, there is a way to improve your handwriting.
If you observe hand writing that you think is “good” and compare it to your handwriting that you think is “poor”, what differences do you then see? Write those differences down. This will help you in your first steps to improving your handwriting. By analyzing good hand writing and bad handwriting, you will then start to see and understand the differences between both. But is all good analyzing the differences by yourself, but then you will come to a time when you ask yourself “How do they actually have good handwriting!?”, followed by all of the “what’s, whens, where’s and whys ” questions. Now is the time to really study and understand the technique of good handwriting.

What is penmanship?
Penmanship is the art of handwriting. “Wait hold on! I thought that calligraphy was the art of handwriting?”… Though you might have thought so, they are similar but there is a slight difference between penmanship and handwriting. Penmanship is the art of ‘handwriting’ within everyday handwriting, using various handwriting styles; ‘hands’ or ‘scripts’ styles. Where as calligraphy is the art of ‘writing’ in itself, not everyday normal handwriting, but decorative elaborate writing for special occasions or visual art pieces. Penmanship refers to the handwriting in many of the different the western alphabet. Penmanship is said to have really of set of in Americas ‘golden age of penmanship’ from 1850-1951. One method of handwriting taught and applied was the ‘Spencerian Method’. This is a very popular classic penmanship method which many people try to learn and practice today. P. R. Spencer's book, published 1866’ was a book that helped people learn and understand this method. Another famous method was the

style, that was taught and used in the earliest penmanship days. |
