And The Art of Teaching Cursive Handwriting



We've talked about different handwriting studies on the site, from the Palmer Method of handwriting to different kinds of handwriting improvements . Now I will talk a little about the general study of cursive handwriting and how and why it began.

The meaning of cursive handwriting is handwriting that is ‘joined-up’. Prior to the late 1930's, it was the law to teach cursive handwriting in all European schools. Learning good handwriting showed to improve children’s academic self esteem.

Teaching Cursive Handwriting

Cursive handwriting is taught in many European public and private elementary schools, mainly in the USA, and there are courses and degrees that you can take to learn to teach this classic penmanship.

Handwriting kindergarten

It is good to learn cursive handwriting at an early stage. The earlier taught, the earlier the child picks up good penmanship techniques. Children at the kindergarten stage have minds that soak up and absorb information quickly. As mentioned above, handwriting had to be taught to children in early times, but however as time grew people thought it to be of less importance and pushed it out, to make way for other subjects. But today’s Dyslexia and reading experts have gained knowledge that teaching cursive handwriting early improves long time penmanship skills as well as teaching children how to read, and how to read others handwriting.

Handwriting Tutor

Having a handwriting tutor for your child/children or yourself is beneficial if you want to get %100 out of a professional’s time and skills to help improve your handwriting. The majority of handwriting tutors are aimed at children; you can find them commonly as teachers in your Childs school. If your and adult looking for a tutor to help improve your handwriting, you could search for a handwriting tutor and possible find a tutor. If you can't find a 'handwriting tutor' try rephrasing, and ask for a 'penmanship tutor' instead, or a 'calligraphy tutor' if you want to improve your handwriting to study calligraphy, as they help you with your handwriting first, before learning calligraphy.
